Fourth of July 2014

For the first time in several years, Scott was able to take the holiday off. We were so excited that we actually made plans for our three-day weekend!

And Mother Nature laughed.

It started on Thursday, July 3rd. Our neighborhood scheduled a party with a live band, food trucks, and fireworks. Reporters had predicted storms for the past two weeks, all of which failed to develop into anything substantial... until that night.

First, a dust storm rolled in. Here's what it looked like hitting the city:

Fortunately, we only got the edge of it.

Then the lightening and wind began.

We walked down the street to check out the storm. The cicadas chirped like crazy, then we saw this guy warming himself in the road.

The monsoon kept escalating, so they had to cancel the party. We set up our camp chairs on the back patio and watched lightening and pouring rain late into the night. What an incredible storm!

We woke up to an unusually humid morning. After cleaning lots of debris, we swam until lunch.

We rested and watched movies in the afternoon, grilled a tasty dinner, then kept a close eye on the news. They warned about more storms... but we tested our luck and met some friends to see Goodyear Ballpark's fireworks.

The night was muggy and clear, and we had a great time.
